With the Google Home Max I still do all of those things, but all while listening to music or podcasts. That said, if you can get one for cheap somewhere it’s worth considering. So the Home Max looks good and works well, but how does it sound?
It’s near-perfect for audio, but video could be improved. What you can actually stream to these screens is limited. The software the Google Nest Hub Max uses is not like Android. There’s no homescreen of apps to tap and it cannot stream video from Netflix. While you can link the speaker to your Netflix account in the Google Home app, it simply refuses to play any Netflix content when you ask it to.
How does the Google Home Max sound?
There probably aren't many occasions when you'll need to hit peak volume, but if you do, the option is always there to disturb the neighbours. The slight emphasis in the lower frequencies will probably be a positive for most people because of its subtlety. It doesn’t overpower the mids at all and when paired with how loud this thing can get, so it’s perfect for powering your parties. That said, it sounded good even at low volumes and I ended up using it to play music in the background throughout the day as well. I tested this by playing the song Havana by Camilla Cabelo at four different volumes .

Does the idea of a camera that watches you 24/7 worry you? Some smart displays have physical sliders that block the cameras but the Google Nest Hub Max does not. The camera is not only used for the Nest feature.
Using the Home Max requires your voice to call up the tunes, or you can do things strictly on your iPhone, Android device or tablet by tapping the Cast button in your favorite streaming app. The sound fills the room, especially if you have other Google Cast-enabled speakers to help out. But even by itself, it’s plenty strong enough to bring the party – even if it’s not capable of 360-degree sound like the Apple HomePod.
From a purely audio-based standpoint, the Boombox is the winner in terms of volume and bass depth, while the Klipsch model delivers the most refined audio of the bunch. As far as smart speakers go, the top competitor for the Google Home Max right now is JBL's Link system, especially the Link 500 ($399.95), which we are in the process of reviewing. The Link system has four different speaker options, all with Google Assistant. The major functionality you lose is the ability to make phone calls, which Google's own speakers have but third-party models don't.

We were also unable to access the camera directly, from the touchscreen. That’s right, the Google Nest Hub Max can’t find its own camera.
